Pulse massacre survivors, families visit nightclub site
SUMMARY: Families of the 49 victims and survivors of the Pulse nightclub shooting in Orlando visited the closed site for the first time ahead of the attack’s ninth anniversary. The club, largely untouched since the 2016 tragedy, is set to be torn down soon. Among those visiting was Christine Leinonen, who lost her son Christopher, shot nine times. Though the visit didn’t bring closure, it offered clarity on what her son endured. Before tours, families received an FBI briefing revealing the investigation’s closure, which raised questions among them. About 24 families and 70 survivors signed up for the site visits.
Survivors and families of the 49 victims killed in the Pulse nightclub shooting were invited this week to walk through the nightclub for the first time since the June 12, 2016, massacre, just before the site is demolished.

Officials warn districts to give teacher raises, unions say funding falls short
SUMMARY: As Florida schools prepare to open, tensions rise between state officials and teachers’ unions over pay raises. Governor Ron DeSantis and Education Commissioner Anastasios Kamoutsas announced over $100 million in additional teacher pay but accused some districts and unions of delaying implementation. Kamoutsas warned districts against stalling and threatened action. The Florida Education Association (FEA) criticized the increase as insufficient, highlighting Florida’s low national teacher salary ranking and ongoing staffing issues. State Democrats pushed for a salary bill, which failed. Despite disagreements, the state reports a nearly 30% drop in teacher vacancies and expanded recruitment, while unions continue advocating for more funding.

SUMMARY: Dolphins cornerback Kader Kohou is out for the season due to a right knee injury sustained during Saturday’s training camp practice, confirmed by Head Coach Mike McDaniel. Kohou, the team’s top cornerback after losing Kendall Fuller and Jalen Ramsey, was injured covering Tyreek Hill.
