Burn bans cover much of Mississippi until further notice
SUMMARY: Calhoun County in Mississippi has joined several other counties in implementing a burn ban due to severe drought conditions. The lack of rainfall and low humidity levels are increasing the risk of fires in the area. The ban prohibits any outdoor burning unless controlled by the Mississippi Forestry Commission. Fires can easily start in these dry conditions, even from something as small as a tossed cigarette or loose chains on a trailer. Farmers are unable to burn their fields, which may be frustrating but is necessary for safety. Other counties affected by the burn ban include Chickasaw, Grenada, Lee, and Monroe.
