Business Responds to Hemp Regulation Bill | May 10, 2025 | News 19 at 10 p.m. – Weekend
SUMMARY: A new bill, HB 445, regulating THC products derived from hemp is awaiting Governor Kay Ivey’s signature in Alabama. The bill limits serving sizes to 10 milligrams of THC and total package content to 40 milligrams. This poses a major challenge for businesses like The Green Lady Dispensary in Huntsville, where products typically contain 200 to 1000 milligrams per package, threatening closures. Manufacturers face costly and time-consuming equipment changes before the January 2026 deadline. While lawmakers support removing unregulated products, some business owners and advocates urge the governor to veto the bill, calling for more industry understanding and time.
