Osceola Co. Sheriff Lopez arrest update
SUMMARY: Former Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez is held on a $1 million bond at Lake County Jail, facing federal racketeering and conspiracy charges linked to an illegal gambling operation. Arrested last Thursday, at least two others have been detained, with more involved in the case under investigation. Two employees close to Lopez, including executive director Nava Rodriguez, were fired but not charged; Rodriguez denies involvement. Other arrestees include Carol Ann Cote and Sharon Frederick, both with criminal histories. Lopez is accused of obstructing the investigation. Authorities continue probing, protecting the identity of confidential informants, with several suspects yet to be jailed.

FOX 35 is staying on top of the case of now suspended Osceola County Sheriff Marcos Lopez. Our teams have been live outside of the jail waiting to see if Lopez posts the million dollar bond the judge had set Friday. FOX 35’s Marie Edinger has the latest on the arrest.

South Florida Weather for Wednesday 6/11/2025 12PM
SUMMARY: South Florida faces tricky weather with about a 40% chance of scattered showers and storms today and tomorrow, potentially causing minor flooding from heavier downpours. Rain chances will decrease by the end of the workweek and into the weekend, becoming more isolated, thanks to Saharan dust moving into the region. Temperatures will be in the upper 80s to lower 90s but feel warmer due to humidity. While storm models have been unreliable, the heaviest activity is expected westward. The Saharan dust should help keep the region mostly storm-free by Father’s Day, lowering rain chances further.

NEXT Weather meteorologist Shane Hinton says a few scattered showers are possible in the afternoon with highs in the upper 80s.

Trump’s FAA administrator pick facing tough questions on safety at hearing
SUMMARY: President Donald Trump’s FAA nominee, Bryan Bedford, faced scrutiny during a hearing over safety concerns following a deadly midair collision in January and other incidents. Bedford, CEO of Republic Airways since 1999, is supported by major airlines and air traffic controllers but criticized by pilots’ unions and Democrats worried he might weaken pilot training standards. Bedford pledged to prioritize safety and work on modernizing the air traffic control system. The FAA has acknowledged past shortcomings, including near misses around Reagan National Airport, and is reviewing helicopter flight safety. Concerns remain about potential easing of the 1,500-hour pilot experience rule.

Florida residents are flocking to this city, study finds. Here’s why
SUMMARY: A moveBuddha study reveals Orlando as the top destination for Floridians relocating within the state, driven by its lower living costs and new high-speed rail to Miami. The most popular route is Miami-to-Orlando. Kissimmee, Ocala, and The Villages saw the biggest net gains, while Hialeah ranked least popular. New Hampshire leads in sending residents to Florida, and North Carolina is the top state for Floridians leaving. Central Florida cities dominate internal moves, with trends showing a slowdown from pandemic migration surges and more selective movers. The ranked list highlights cities’ inbound-to-outbound move ratios and median home values.
