In the tropics: Tropical Depression 2 forms in southern Gulf, expected to move into Mexico
SUMMARY: Tropical Depression 2 has formed in the southern Gulf of Mexico, now officially the second Atlantic depression of the 2025 season. Hurricane hunters detected a small, organized circulation with sustained winds of 30 mph, moving west-northwest at 7 mph, expected to strengthen into Tropical Storm Barry. The system will likely make landfall near Tampico, Mexico, Sunday night or early Monday morning, bringing heavy rain and flash flooding risks, especially in mountainous areas. Meanwhile, moisture from the system will increase rain chances and street flooding in Southeast Texas on Sunday, with a weather impact alert in effect from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. KHOU 11 will provide ongoing tropical updates.
