SUMMARY: Oklahoma Representative Brian Hill is advocating for increased student safety in response to cyberbullying concerns, particularly after a Mustang student’s suicide. Hill met with the student’s family, which inspired a bill proposing a pilot program to combat cyberbullying. The program would involve the Department of Mental Health and the State Department of Education using AI software to monitor school-issued devices for harmful content. Mustang Public Schools previously sought Homeland Security’s help to shut down a website spreading hate. Hill’s bill has advanced out of a subcommittee but faces further steps. Support is available via the National Suicide Prevention Hotline at 988.

SUMMARY: A Senator from Moore is advocating for new standards for Oklahoma jails following a series of failed inspections and deaths. State Senator Darrell Weaver, with over 20 years of law enforcement experience, aims to unify jail operations and establish comprehensive standards. His proposed 43-page bill includes mandatory yearly inspections to ensure proper conditions regarding housing, food, bedding, and security for inmates. Activists have long called for reform due to high death rates in facilities like the Oklahoma County Jail. Weaver believes implementing these standards could help prevent such tragedies in the future. The bill was on the Senate agenda but not addressed.
