Officials offer fire safety advice as summer temps rise
SUMMARY: As summer temperatures rise, Florence fire officials urge residents to prevent house fires by checking smoke detectors regularly and ensuring they work properly. Fire Marshal Chris Johnson highlights common summer fire risks such as grilling, fire pits, and outdoor burning, which is now banned for yard waste and bonfires under a city ordinance. He advises checking grills for gas leaks, placing them on stable surfaces away from homes, and being cautious with fireworks by having water nearby and avoiding close proximity. The fire department offers free smoke alarm installations for homes without working detectors to improve safety.
