SUMMARY: Parkinson’s disease is a degenerative disorder characterized by tremors, stiffness, and mental health issues, affecting nearly 90,000 people annually and around 10 million globally. Research suggests it may originate in the gut and spread to the brain. Duke University gastroenterologist Roger Little is investigating this gut-brain connection, focusing on specific gut cells that communicate with the brain. His studies on protein dysfunction and cell clumping, known as Lewy bodies, could lead to early interventions before symptoms develop. Other researchers are also exploring this connection to potentially prevent Parkinson’s and other neurodegenerative diseases.

It’s estimated each year, 90,000 people are diagnosed with the disease and up to 10 million people worldwide are living with it. However, no one knows what causes Parkinson’s but new research may help figure out how it spreads.

The latest report showed only 73,000 jobs added in July, with previous months’ figures revised down significantly, signaling economic weakening amid inflation and trade tensions.
