New Orleans Weather: Extreme heat continues, highs approach 100 degrees this week
SUMMARY: A significant heat wave is expected this week, with temperatures reaching the upper 90s and a heat index soaring to around 112°F. This dangerous heat, coupled with limited sunshine, means outdoor activities should be limited. Additionally, Tropical Storm Debbie is causing heavy rain in the Southeast, with forecasts of 10-15 inches in South Carolina. The storm will track northward, affecting major cities from DC to Boston. A tropical wave in the Caribbean may remain weak and close to land, posing a lower risk. The intense heat will persist, with overnight lows in the 70s to low 80s.
With the intense heat, don’t expect much rain. We’ll also have light winds from the northwest which will mean very slightly lower humidity. We’ll also have light winds from the northwest which will mean very slightly lower humidity. This should limit the heat index to around 112, but that is plenty hot to cause heat stress issues, especially since our overnight temperatures will bottom out in the lower 80s.
