SUMMARY: Myrtle Beach has extended its juvenile curfew for a second night due to recent deadly shootings along Ocean Boulevard. The curfew for those under 18 now starts at 10 p.m., earlier than the usual midnight citywide curfew. Police use public announcements and patrols, including bike and vehicle units, to enforce the curfew, focusing on unsupervised teens. While the first night resulted in no citations, unsupervised teenagers could face fines up to \$500 or 30 days in jail. Despite the curfew, visitors continue to frequent downtown Myrtle Beach late into the evening, with some supporting the safety measure.

The second night of an extended 10 p.m. curfew for teens under 18 is underway in downtown Myrtle Beach, stretching from 13th Avenue South to 21st North and inland to parts of Broadway Street.

The curfew, typically starting at midnight, has been moved earlier this weekend following recent deadly shootings along Ocean Boulevard.

“We have a juvenile curfew that starts at 10 p.m. If you are under the age of 18, you must be at your final destination no later than 10 p.m.,” announced MBPD Chief Amy Prock over a recording that airs every thirty minutes along the Boardwalk and in Plyler Park.

SUMMARY: Drivers in Myrtle Beach are frustrated with ongoing construction on the U.S. 17 bypass, causing daily traffic bottlenecks and long backups, especially during rush hour. The project, which began in July 2022, aims to widen the highway from two to three lanes over a mile and a half stretch but has dragged on for nearly three years. Locals report painful detours, lane reductions, and slowed speed limits without visible progress, leading many to avoid the area entirely. Businesses near the construction, like Joe’s Airport Diner, are also affected. Officials have yet to provide an updated timeline.

Drivers navigating the Highway 17 Bypass near Myrtle Beach Airport (MYR) are expressing frustration over ongoing road construction that has persisted for years.

Many locals said they avoid the area unless absolutely necessary due to the traffic congestion:

“The road getting here is terrible,” said Joe Sidoni.
