Missouri counties denied state aid for tornado damage
SUMMARY: Tornado victims in St. Clair, Henry, and Benton counties, Missouri, will not receive state assistance after the May 19 tornadoes. State aid was denied partly because many affected homes were second homes, disqualifying them from funding. Local emergency management agencies are seeking alternative resources and volunteers to help with cleanup efforts. The Iconium Fire Protection District is asking for volunteers with dump trucks, trailers, and wood chipper operators to clear debris in devastated neighborhoods. Fire Chief David Price emphasized the lack of state and FEMA funding and the community’s reliance on neighbors and volunteers to recover.
