Wash new clothes before you wear them
SUMMARY: Consumer Reports advises washing new clothes before wearing them to remove chemicals and irritants from manufacturing that can cause skin irritation, especially for sensitive skin and babies. New garments, often made overseas, can also pick up dust, dirt, and bugs during shipping and handling. Washing clothes with similar colors in cold water on a gentle cycle helps prevent fading and shrinking. Use gentle detergents like Pur Everyday Clean Free or Costco’s Kirkland Signature Ultra Clean Free and Clear. Always follow care labels and avoid fabric softeners, as they may irritate skin, leave residue, and increase flammability of fabrics.
Consumer Reports break down the reason why it’s important to do so.

Beaufort County locals reject proposed immigration task force
SUMMARY: Over 100 Beaufort County residents voiced strong opposition to Sheriff PJ Tanner’s proposal to create a local immigration task force under ICE’s 287(g) program. Community members argued that ICE recently received a 350% budget increase and does not need local assistance. They expressed concerns the task force would foster mistrust, target immigrants unfairly, and push undocumented residents into hiding, reducing crime reporting. Tanner clarified the plan involved only one trained deputy targeting undocumented people committing crimes, not all immigrants. Residents remained skeptical, fearing escalation and profiling, while Tanner assured no abuses like those seen nationally occur locally. The program is not currently active.
