Morning weather forecast: 5/29/25
SUMMARY: This morning’s forecast shows mostly dry conditions across the region, with isolated showers developing mainly in central Kentucky, including Bourbon, Nicholas, and parts northwest of Owensville. Dense fog is present in southern and southeast Kentucky but will clear soon. Temperatures are in the low to mid-60s, rising to the mid and upper 70s today with scattered afternoon storms likely. A southern disturbance will bring rain to southeast Kentucky later tonight, with most rain arriving after midnight, causing a wet Friday morning commute. Cooler, stormy conditions will persist Friday, but drier, warmer weather returns early next week despite possible isolated showers over the weekend.

Rural Kentucky lawmaker announces switch to the GOP in the latest setback for Democrats
SUMMARY: State Sen. Robin Webb of Kentucky, one of the last rural Democrats in the state legislature, announced she is switching to the Republican Party, further strengthening GOP supermajorities. Webb cited growing disconnect with the Democratic Party’s leftward shift as the reason for her change. Kentucky Democrats now have minimal rural legislative presence, complicating their efforts to rebuild support outside urban areas. The GOP has dominated rural districts since 2016, aided by Donald Trump’s influence. Kentucky Democrats are pursuing grassroots efforts to regain rural voters, while Republicans view Webb’s switch as part of a broader trend reflecting Kentucky’s conservative shift.

LMPD working to improve safety in the Highlands
SUMMARY: LMPD is working to improve safety in the Highlands after large late-night crowds blocked streets and disrupted traffic near Bardstown Road and Grinstead Drive over the holiday weekend. Officers dispersed the cooperative crowd, believed to have overflowed from a nearby bar. Residents, like Elizabeth Bierman, expressed ongoing safety concerns due to past violence and dangerous litter on the streets. LMPD Chief Paul Humphrey confirmed police responsiveness, while Councilman Ben Weber’s team proposed a plan with LMPD and Alcoholic Beverage Control including limited weekend parking access, added security cameras, and a dedicated patrol squad on Bardstown Road. Residents remain cautious despite these efforts.

More showers and storms on the way to end the week
SUMMARY: After several stormy days, Thursday brought dry, pleasant weather to Central and Eastern Kentucky, with sunshine and highs in the mid-70s. However, Friday returns to an unsettled pattern with widespread rain and storms, including a Level 1 severe risk in southern Kentucky for gusty winds or a possible tornado. Some road flooding and travel delays are likely during the morning commute. Saturday looks mostly dry with spotty showers and mild temperatures in the mid-70s. Sunday remains cool with limited rain, but next week sees a warm-up as highs climb into the low-to-mid 80s, signaling a return to summer.
