SUMMARY: The Department of Homeland Security plans to end Temporary Protected Status (TPS) for tens of thousands, including Hondurans and Nicaraguans living in the US, giving 60 days to self-deport. TPS, granted after a 1990s hurricane, is ending as DHS claims conditions in those countries have improved. East Tennessee’s Bridge Refugee Services warns this decision complicates their support efforts, leaving many immigrants’ futures uncertain. The organization must now intensify case management amidst confusion. Affected immigrants and advocacy groups are suing to block the termination, which could impact up to 80,000 people nationwide.

While Chinese students make up a significant portion of international students in the U.S., concerns over research security and espionage persist amid ongoing scrutiny.

SUMMARY: More than 100 dogs were rescued from extremely neglectful conditions in a Cheatham County home, where a large-scale breeding operation had gone unchecked. Rescuers wore respirators due to strong ammonia smells caused by urine and feces everywhere. Officials found 113 dogs, many malnourished and some infected; one was dead. Infrared cameras were used to ensure no animals remained hidden inside walls or furniture. Neighbors were aware of barking but unaware of the scale. Animal control and the sheriff’s office are investigating, with charges pending. Rescued dogs were taken to a local emergency shelter for treatment before moving to adoption centers.

The smell was so strong that rescuers had to wear respirators just to go inside the Joelton home.
