More than 1 million power banks recalled after some consumers report fires
SUMMARY: More than 1.15 million Anker “PowerCore 10000” power banks are being recalled in the U.S. after reports of fires and explosions caused by overheating lithium-ion batteries. The Consumer Product Safety Commission (CPSC) noted 19 incidents, including two minor burns and over \$60,700 in property damage. Sold online from June 2016 to December 2022 for around \$27, these chargers pose fire hazards like melting plastic and smoke. Consumers should stop using them immediately and contact Anker for a free replacement by registering on the company’s website. Proper disposal is critical due to fire risks associated with lithium-ion batteries.

Israeli strikes on Gaza kill at least 16 as war rages on after the opening of a new front with Iran
SUMMARY: At least 16 Palestinians were killed in Israeli strikes on Gaza overnight amid the ongoing 20-month war with Hamas. Eleven others died near food distribution points run by an Israeli- and U.S.-supported humanitarian group, as Israeli forces allegedly fired on crowds desperate for aid in military zones off-limits to independent media. The new aid system, intended to replace a U.N.-run network, faces criticism for militarizing aid access and failing to meet growing needs. Since the Oct. 7 Hamas attack on Israel, which killed 1,200 Israelis, Israel’s retaliation has killed over 55,000 Palestinians and displaced 90% of Gaza’s two million residents.
