SUMMARY: A deadly home explosion in Florissant, Missouri, killed 46-year-old Michael Blankenship, who was manufacturing homemade pyrotechnic devices in his garage. The blast occurred Wednesday afternoon on Trinity Lane near Graham Road, shaking nearby houses and damaging several homes with broken windows and ripped siding. Paramedics rushed Blankenship to the hospital, but he died from critical injuries. Neighbors were shocked as a child escaped unharmed. Pyrotechnic expert John Whiter of Gateway Fireworks emphasized that making fireworks at home is extremely dangerous, requiring extensive training, education, and supervision—conditions not met by homemade attempts like Blankenship’s.

A Florissant neighborhood is still shaken two weeks after a deadly home explosion. The man who was killed was making homemade pyrotechnics.

For lots of people who live in one Florissant neighborhood, Wednesday afternoon was one they’ll never forget.

“All of a sudden I heard a big boom, my house shook and pictures fell off my walls,” said neighbor Wayne Hauenschild.

“I was down in my basement working at my desk and my house shook. I thought somebody ran into my house,” said neighbor Steven Busken.

SUMMARY: A 22-year-old Florissant man, Anthony Scott, was charged with two counts of first-degree burglary after breaking into two apartments early Tuesday morning at Sugar Pines Apartments. Scott entered one victim’s bedroom through a bent window screen, fleeing after she screamed and grabbed a bat. He was also found inside a second victim’s apartment near the front door before fleeing again. Surveillance footage and fingerprints linked Scott to multiple burglaries, including previous offenses involving unlawful entry and inappropriate touching of female victims’ feet and legs. Scott is held on a \$500,000 bond with a bond reduction hearing set for June 6.
