Mississippi country music singer turns heads during ‘The Voice’ performance

Another Mississippi native has advanced to the next round of NBC's The Voice after capturing the attention of one coach during Monday night's episode.

24-year-old Walker Wilson, who was raised in Raymond, turned the chair of country music singer Blake Shelton during his performance of “Hurricane” by Band of Heathens.

“You have a grit to what you do,” Shelton stated. “You're on the right track with that sound and this is going to be a lot of fun to do.”

Shelton the singer's voice to Waylon Jennings, adding that he would like to hear Wilson perform songs such as Shelton's own “Ol' Red” and “God's Country.”

“Just in the vein of what you just did, I could hear all kinds of options,” Shelton explained. “This is going to be a lot of fun.”

SUMMARY: Cicadas are emerging in Mississippi, with Choctaw County witnessing its first documented cicada for 2024. Mississippi has three broods of 13-year cicadas, with Brood XIX set to emerge this year. Mississippi is the only with all three broods of 13-year periodic cicadas, with Brood XIX in 2024, Brood XXII in 2027, and Brood XXIII in 2028. There are 12 broods of 17-year cicadas, but these occur farther north. Periodic cicadas are known for their appearance, loud singing, and large numbers. Mississippi will also see annual cicadas with greenish bodies and bulging eyes.

Lions Club members help Monroe Strong with rebuilding Amory

SUMMARY: Monroe Strong in Amory, Mississippi is working to bring the town back by repairing roofs of homes damaged by a last year. They received a $100,000 donation from Lions Club International Foundation to their efforts. Monroe Strong has formed local partnerships to stretch the grant money and get the work done quickly. Multiple shots fired into Brandon home

No one was inside the house during the shooting, and shell casings and bullet holes were found at the scene. evidence shows two individuals firing shots into the home, but no arrests have been made yet. The Brandon Police Department is asking for information from anyone who may have witnessed the incident.
