Memphis averages at least one hit-and-run crash per hour, according to police data
SUMMARY: Memphis averages more than one hit-and-run crash every hour this year, with 3,725 incidents reported from January 1 to May 14. Recent cases, like a serious injury near Highland and Faxton Avenue, highlight the growing concern. Police continue investigating suspects, often elusive, while citizens express frustration and fear. Insurance agents report delays in vehicle repairs due to high accident volume, damaged vehicles, and parts shortages. Authorities urge drivers to slow near crosswalks and avoid texting while driving, now illegal in Tennessee. Pedestrians are advised to use crosswalks and avoid crossing mid-block to enhance safety.

Within the City of Memphis, there’s more than one hit-and-run crash per hour. It’s the latest statistic we’re getting from Memphis Police (MPD) as they continue to investigate the people responsible.
