Meet Lupe: Zoo Atlanta’s colorful toco toucan | FOX 5 News
SUMMARY: Zoo Atlanta welcomes Lupe, a colorful toco toucan—the largest toucan species native to South America. Lupe mainly eats fruit but also catches insects midair. Visitors can see her in the free-flight bird show, Fantastic Flights, featured during the upcoming Savannah Nights adult-only events in June, July, and August. This weekend, Zoo Atlanta hosts a family-friendly Neighborhood Block Party with discounted admission, inflatable slides, and bubble entertainment. The toco toucan’s distinctive blue eye ring helps camouflage her shape from predators. Zoo Atlanta offers many exciting events and animal encounters for all ages throughout the summer.

Lupe is one of the brightest birds taking wing during Zoo Atlanta’s Fantastic Flights. She and Becky Young joined Joanne Feldman to talk about all the fun events coming to the zoo this June.

How Saharan air impacts tropical systems
SUMMARY: The Saharan Air Layer (SAL) is a warm, dry air mass carrying dust from the Sahara Desert across the Atlantic during late spring to early fall. It typically spans from half a mile to three miles above the surface and affects tropical storms and hurricanes in various ways. Generally, the SAL inhibits storm development by warming the atmosphere, reducing thunderstorm activity, cooling ocean waters, and increasing wind shear, which disrupts storms. It mainly impacts weaker systems like tropical depressions, while stronger hurricanes can often resist its effects, though they may still be weakened. Occasionally, SAL dust can enhance rainfall by aiding cloud formation.

Traffic enforcement in full gear as Rick Ross car show returns
SUMMARY: Rick Ross’s annual car show in Fayetteville draws large crowds, causing significant traffic challenges. To manage this, about 150 law enforcement officers from Fayetteville and nearby areas are actively directing traffic and monitoring via drones. Chief Deputy Anthony Rhodes emphasized keeping traffic flowing and ensuring emergency vehicles have access. Parking problems have led to major jams, with strict towing enforced for illegal roadside parking. Shuttle services operate from designated lots where security checks occur, and drop-offs near Rick Ross’s mansion are prohibited. Peak traffic times are 7–11 a.m. and 4–11 p.m., with efforts focused on safety and smooth movement.

Rick Ross is holding his fourth annual car show at this 350-acre estate in Fayetteville and law enforcement is doing what they can to manage traffic.

Small businesses see growth despite tariffs and AI | FOX 5 News
SUMMARY: Despite economic uncertainty from tariffs and AI, small businesses are thriving better than large companies. Consumer spending, up 5% year-over-year, fuels their growth. According to Bank of America, serving over 3 million small businesses, significant layoffs linked to tariffs or AI haven’t materialized, with payroll growth exceeding 6% this year as companies continue hiring amid talent competition. Experts attribute this resilience to small businesses’ agility, enabling quick adaptation to market changes. President Trump indicated progress in trade talks with China, though outcomes remain uncertain. Overall, small businesses are leveraging their flexibility to navigate ongoing economic challenges and capitalize on opportunities.

Small businesses report seeing growth and hiring workers. Larger businesses are raising prices and laying off workers because of tariff concerns.
