Another heat wave building into the region
SUMMARY: A significant late-summer heat wave is building into the region, bringing temperatures rising from the low 90s to mid-90s, with heat indices reaching around 105-106 due to high humidity. A heat advisory is in effect Thursday from noon to 9 p.m., urging caution for those outdoors. This extreme heat, caused by a persistent upper-level high pressure system, will affect much of the eastern half of the U.S., continuing through the weekend and into next week, potentially hitting the upper 90s by Tuesday. Isolated, scattered storms are possible Saturday and Sunday, but most areas will remain dry and extremely hot.

Bryan Kohberger sentenced to life in prison for murdering 4 Idaho students
SUMMARY: Bryan Kohberger pleaded guilty to the 2022 murders of four University of Idaho students—Madison Mogen, Xana Kernodle, Kaylee Goncalves, and Ethan Chapin—and was sentenced to life in prison without parole. Kohberger, a criminology graduate student, was identified through DNA evidence and cellphone data after a six-week investigation. The motive remains unknown, and he spared two roommates during the attack. Kohberger waived his right to appeal in a deal to avoid the death penalty. Victims’ families expressed mixed feelings about the plea. Foundations and the University of Idaho have established memorials and scholarships honoring the victims’ legacies.
