Local partners unite to support Augusta’s Center of Hope soup kitchen

The Salvation Army serves about 150 meals daily, totaling over 45,000 home-cooked meals this year. Janelys Villalta, Marketing Manager, emphasized community donations of goods, money, and time are vital to helping those in need. Monthly drives raise awareness and stock the shelter. Villalta encourages donations, including via an Amazon wish list. Southbound Smokehouse is proud to support local efforts. Several HBCUs close campuses amid 'potential threats'

SUMMARY: Several historically Black colleges and universities (HBCUs) were placed on lockdown Thursday due to potential threats to campus safety. Affected schools include Virginia State University, Hampton University, Southern University and A&M College, Bethune-Cookman University, Clark Atlanta University, and Alabama State University. Students and faculty were alerted early Thursday, with some lockdowns lifted by afternoon after law enforcement sweeps. No injuries were reported. School officials and law enforcement are investigating, urging vigilance. Congressman Troy A. Carter condemned the threats, calling for federal action. Charlie Kirk death: Photos of person of interest
