LMPD working to improve safety in the Highlands
SUMMARY: LMPD is working to improve safety in the Highlands after large late-night crowds blocked streets and disrupted traffic near Bardstown Road and Grinstead Drive over the holiday weekend. Officers dispersed the cooperative crowd, believed to have overflowed from a nearby bar. Residents, like Elizabeth Bierman, expressed ongoing safety concerns due to past violence and dangerous litter on the streets. LMPD Chief Paul Humphrey confirmed police responsiveness, while Councilman Ben Weber’s team proposed a plan with LMPD and Alcoholic Beverage Control including limited weekend parking access, added security cameras, and a dedicated patrol squad on Bardstown Road. Residents remain cautious despite these efforts.

More showers and storms possible into the late week
SUMMARY: Central and Eastern Kentucky experienced scattered showers and storms Tuesday, with dry and pleasant conditions Wednesday and highs in the low 80s. A cold front Thursday will bring widespread showers and storms, dropping temperatures to the mid-70s, with a slight severe weather risk in Southeastern Kentucky. Friday will be warm and dry with highs in the mid-80s, but rain chances return late Friday night and linger into Saturday morning, potentially affecting Kentucky’s Ole Miss football game. Cooler Canadian high pressure moves in Sunday with sunny, pleasant weather and mid-70s highs. Monday remains nice, with a slight shower chance Tuesday.

FDA approves updated Covid-19 vaccines with new restrictions and limits for healthy children
SUMMARY: The FDA approved updated Covid-19 vaccines for fall 2025 but limited them to higher-risk groups, including children over 6 months with health conditions, reducing access for healthy kids. Moderna’s vaccine is approved for children 6 months and older, Pfizer’s for 5+, and Novavax for 12+, all targeting new variants. The CDC no longer routinely recommends vaccines for healthy children 6 months to 17 years, diverging from the American Academy of Pediatrics (AAP), which supports vaccination for all children whose parents want it. These conflicting guidelines and supply issues may cause confusion and reduce vaccination rates among vulnerable children. Families should consult pediatricians for guidance.
