SUMMARY: The superintendent of the Little Rock School District, Jamal Wright, apologized for announcing plans to close two elementary schools without community input. During a packed meeting, frustrated parents voiced their concerns about the proposed consolidations, which involve merging Carver and Washington Elementary into a new school while closing Brady Elementary and distributing its students to other schools. Wright admitted rushing the decision and promised to address community questions about the transition. The School Board is scheduled to vote on these closures on December 19. Another public meeting is set for December 11 at Washington Elementary for further discussion.

After the LRSD superintendent announced plans to potentially close two elementary schools a few weeks ago, parents now had the opportunity to share thoughts.

The discord has been labeled an embarrassment for the state, with calls for more private discussions instead of public confrontations.

SUMMARY: U.S. Rep. Bruce Westerman (R-AR) emphasizes the need for Congress to explore innovative ways to use American forests instead of letting them burn. He points out that billions of dollars are spent annually fighting wildfires and argues that forests should be a source of income for the federal government, not a financial burden. Westerman suggests that healthy, well-managed forests can provide sustainable products for buildings, acting as carbon sinks by storing atmospheric carbon. He stresses that forests also offer essential benefits like clean air, water, and wildlife habitats, which are lost when they are destroyed by fire.
