Lawsuit challenging South Carolina’s curriculum restrictions dismissed by federal judge
SUMMARY: A federal judge dismissed a lawsuit challenging South Carolina’s law restricting teachings on race and gender in public schools. The law threatens funding cuts for schools teaching certain racial and gender topics. Plaintiffs—including the NAACP and notable activists—claimed this law censors Black history and racial inequalities education. Judge Sherri A. Lydon ruled the plaintiffs lacked standing, emphasizing the “democratic process” over federal courts for resolving such issues. The state’s Attorney General supported the decision, asserting the lawsuit pushed a political agenda. The case also involved controversy over the removal of the AP African American studies course, which was not reinstated following the ruling.

Trump’s job market promises fall flat as hiring collapses and inflation ticks up
SUMMARY: The U.S. job market has weakened during President Trump’s first seven months back, with August adding only 22,000 jobs and unemployment rising to 4.3%. Manufacturing and construction sectors shed jobs amid rising inflation driven by Trump’s tariffs. Despite Trump’s optimistic promises of a strong economic rebound and job growth, data contradicts his claims, including rising Black unemployment and job losses in key sectors like manufacturing and energy. Economists note the labor market is softening and inflation remains a concern. While the White House remains hopeful about future growth from tariffs and AI investments, skepticism persists, with political impact hinging on improvements by 2026.
