Delta agrees to pay $79M to settle lawsuit after jetliner dumped fuel on schools
SUMMARY: Delta Air Lines agreed to pay $79 million to settle a 2020 class-action lawsuit after a Boeing 777-200, experiencing engine trouble, dumped 15,000 gallons of fuel over Los Angeles neighborhoods and schoolyards. The plane, returning from a flight to Shanghai, needed to reduce weight for a safe landing. Nearly 60 schoolchildren and teachers in Cudahy were treated for minor irritations. Teachers and homeowners filed lawsuits citing exposure to fuel and related health issues. Delta stated the fuel dump was necessary due to engine thrust loss and overweight landing risks. The settlement avoids trial without admitting liability.

Trump ends ex-Vice President Harris’ Secret Service protection early after Biden had extended it
SUMMARY: President Donald Trump has revoked former Vice President Kamala Harris’ Secret Service protection, which had been extended beyond the standard six months by the Biden administration. Normally, former vice presidents receive six months of protection; ex-presidents get lifetime protection. The Biden administration granted Harris protection for 18 months, but Trump’s administration ended it early, despite no credible threats against her. Harris, a potential 2028 presidential candidate, is set to tour for her memoir “107 Days.” The decision has sparked criticism from Democrats, including Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass, who called it politically motivated and a safety risk amid ongoing political polarization.

Police say Minneapolis church shooter was filled with hatred and admired mass killers
SUMMARY: Robin Westman, 23, opened fire at Annunciation Catholic School in Minneapolis, killing two children and injuring 15 others during Mass. Westman, a former student obsessed with killing children, fired 116 rounds through stained-glass windows before dying by suicide. Authorities found videos and writings expressing hatred toward many groups, except mass murderers, and containing violent threats. The attack, deemed domestic terrorism, shocked the community. Despite no prior arrests, Westman legally obtained firearms. Victims ranged from ages 6 to 15, with most expected to survive. Officials called for assault weapon bans, emphasizing the tragedy’s senselessness and the need for increased safety in schools and churches.
