SUMMARY: Jonesboro Mayor Donna Sartor has reversed her decision to resign, citing pressure from colleagues with possibly ulterior motives. This comes after the city council requested a forensic audit of her spending, though no specific allegations of wrongdoing have been made. The mayor initially announced her resignation but now insists on remaining in office, claiming the resignation meeting scheduled by the city council is unlawful due to improper notice. Sartor asserts she has done nothing wrong and insists her tenure ends with no mismanagement findings. A news conference is scheduled for 10 a.m. to address the situation further.

Mayor Donya Sartor will not resign after stating she was pressured into the decision and plans to address the public Friday.

www.youtube.com – 11Alive – 2025-07-04 22:41:24

SUMMARY: Tropical Depression Three formed today, stalled about 150 miles south of Charleston, and appears ragged. It’s currently stationary but expected to move northward by tomorrow. Models suggest it could strengthen into a low-end tropical storm named Chantal early tomorrow. Landfall is predicted late Saturday night or early Sunday morning near the Carolinas, where it will quickly dissipate after losing Atlantic’s warm waters. Tropical storm watches are in place, likely upgrading to warnings. Most storm activity, including heavy rain and thunderstorms, will impact South and North Carolina, with minimal effects on Georgia except for increased rip currents and a slight chance of showers Sunday. Heat will persist statewide.

This is forecast to become TS Chantal.

Temperatures will be hot, reaching the low to mid-90s but feeling like 100°-103°, so hydration and sun protection are advised. Rain chances drop below 20% by sunset, allowing for mostly clear conditions during fireworks. A broad low-pressure area southeast has a 60% chance of developing into a tropical storm, though impacts locally are expected to be indirect. Coastal rip currents and high surf are concerns. Next week, high pressure will bring less rain but dangerous heat and humidity.
