Joe’s Blog: Storms and heavy rains expected (MON-5/19)
SUMMARY: Severe weather concerns for Kansas City are developing, with storms expected this afternoon and tonight. While data suggests storms may not be severe initially, heavy rains and potential severe conditions, including hail and winds, could occur after 3 PM. The timing of breaks in the clouds will impact storm severity. Tonight, another round of storms may bring stronger conditions, particularly south of the Metro, with winds and hail being the main issues. There is a 10% chance of significant tornadoes in the region, but confidence in a severe outbreak is low. Heavy rain could lead to localized flooding and traffic disruptions.

Missouri family heirloom identified as rare Native American artifact
SUMMARY: A rare pre-contact Native American seed bag, possibly 500 to 2,000 years old, was donated to the University of Arkansas Museum by a Missouri family. Discovered in the 1960s in a Missouri Ozarks bluff shelter, it is considered one of the best-preserved organic artifacts from the region. The bag, containing ancient seeds and stone tools, likely relates to Indigenous use of bluff shelters, which preserve delicate materials in the humid climate. Researchers suspect a cultural connection to the Osage tribe. The museum is consulting the tribe on the artifact’s future care. The donation helps restore a significant piece of history.

Arthur Shivers: Leg Day
SUMMARY: Arthur Shivers from G3 Fitness discusses the importance of leg day workouts, emphasizing leg strength’s role in body stability and balance. Strong legs support daily functional activities and help prevent injuries. Leg training boosts metabolism by working the body’s largest muscles, aiding weight management and improving blood flow, which benefits overall health. Key exercises include bodyweight squats and more advanced moves like single-leg squats. Proper form—keeping knees aligned over ankles and avoiding forward lean—is crucial to prevent injury. Strengthening legs also enhances athletic performance by powering movements through the glutes and hamstrings. G3 Fitness offers affordable memberships and classes to support leg training.

Arthur Shivers with Generation 3 Fitness joins us in studio to talk about strength exercises for your legs.
