SUMMARY: At least 16 Palestinians were killed in Israeli strikes on Gaza overnight amid the ongoing 20-month war with Hamas. Eleven others died near food distribution points run by an Israeli- and U.S.-supported humanitarian group, as Israeli forces allegedly fired on crowds desperate for aid in military zones off-limits to independent media. The new aid system, intended to replace a U.N.-run network, faces criticism for militarizing aid access and failing to meet growing needs. Since the Oct. 7 Hamas attack on Israel, which killed 1,200 Israelis, Israel’s retaliation has killed over 55,000 Palestinians and displaced 90% of Gaza’s two million residents.
