Appeals court blocks judge’s ruling to return control of National Guard to CA
SUMMARY: A federal appeals court has blocked a judge’s order requiring President Trump to return control of the National Guard to California’s governor, following the deployment of troops to Los Angeles amid immigration protests. The judge had ruled the deployment illegal and a violation of the 10th Amendment. The appeals court paused this ruling and set a hearing for next Tuesday; two of the three appellate judges were Trump nominees. Meanwhile, protests continue in downtown LA. During a news conference, California Senator Alex Padilla was forcibly removed and briefly detained by Homeland Security agents after questioning Secretary Kristi Noem.
The court said it would hold a hearing on the matter on Tuesday. The ruling came only hours after a
federal judge’s order was to take effect at noon Friday.
