SUMMARY: On the eve of Rosh Hashanah, the Jewish New Year, Israel faced a barrage of 180 missiles, raising anxiety in the Jewish community amid ongoing violence. Seven Israelis were killed in a separate attack in Jaffa, heightening concerns for those in Israel, where families were urged to seek safety in shelters. Local Rabbi Mara Nathan highlighted the emotional burden as the Jewish community grapples with the upcoming one-year memorial of the October 7 massacre. SUMMARY: The rising cost of caring for aging loved ones is a heavy burden for families. Eddie has cared for his aunt Blossom, who has Alzheimer’s, for seven years, managing daily tasks and ensuring her safety with limited help. According to AARP, 53 million Americans provide such care, spending an average of $7,200 annually out-of-pocket, with the crisis expected to worsen by 2030. Many caregivers leave the workforce, prompting efforts like the Credit for Caring Act, a proposed $5,000 tax credit to ease financial strain. Despite the challenges, caregivers like Eddie find meaning and love in their role, supported by community resources and advocacy.
