Insects as food? ‘We are largely ignoring the largest group of organisms on earth’

Published

www.youtube.com – KSDK News – 2025-04-13 06:59:10

SUMMARY: As egg prices rise, some suggest insects as a protein alternative. At the University of Delaware, students in an “insects as food” class are experimenting with ingredients like worms and bugs. Insects such as silkworms and sago worms are rich in protein and eco-friendly. While some students are enthusiastic about dishes like worm chili and cricket granola, others find the idea less appetizing. Experts argue that incorporating insects into Western diets could address food sustainability issues, but for now, they recommend introducing bugs slowly in processed foods to gain acceptance.

SUMMARY: Missouri and Kansas football coaches, Eli Drinkwitz and Lance Leipold, recently taught their teams about the historical roots of their intense Border War rivalry, dating back to 1850s conflict over slavery in Kansas and Missouri. Once fierce neighbors in the Big 12, the rivalry paused in 2011 when Missouri joined the SEC but resumes Saturday in a nonconference game. The rivalry’s deep history includes Civil War vigilantes, disputed records, and memorable games, sparking strong emotions among fans and players. Both coaches emphasize respect and focus on football despite fierce passion, recognizing the rivalry’s role in energizing their fanbases and athletic departments.

‘One tentacle’ of int’l crime ring dismantled in St. Louis

Published

on

www.youtube.com – FOX 2 St. Louis – 2025-09-05 18:25:59

SUMMARY: Federal prosecutors have dismantled a St. Louis-based “tentacle” of an international crime ring involving Romanian nationals who installed ATM skimmers to steal banking info. Five suspects, arrested in a Florissant home in 2024, were sentenced to prison terms and will be deported. These skimmers, tiny devices hidden on ATMs with pinhole cameras, capture customers’ card data and PINs, making detection difficult for the average user. The group, part of a larger network operating nationwide, often targets St. Louis. Authorities note similar Romanian criminal rings involved in thefts over recent years, emphasizing ongoing vigilance amid increasingly sophisticated skimming tactics.

Five Romanian nationals, who federal prosecutors say came here solely with the purpose of skimming money from your atm transaction, are now going to prison.
