In the face of election denial in North Carolina, the judiciary upholds democracy
SUMMARY: On May 13, 2025, Allison Riggs was sworn into the North Carolina Supreme Court after a six-month resolution of a close 2024 race against Jefferson Griffin, who challenged the results citing election denial claims. The prolonged dispute highlighted critical election principles: rules cannot be changed post-election, and voters cannot be penalized for following existing rules. North Carolina’s state courts risked undermining election finality by partially entertaining Griffin’s challenges. Ultimately, Trump-appointed federal Judge Richard E. Myers II decisively rejected the efforts to discard valid votes, upholding constitutional norms. This intervention ensured democratic process integrity and reaffirmed faith in the federal judiciary amid widespread election skepticism.

The nearly \$70 million plaza features slides, a swing terrace, sensory maze, market, picnic areas, and an interactive pulley system educating visitors about Wake County’s Yates Mill. President threatens tech companies with tariffs
SUMMARY: President Trump escalates trade tensions by announcing a 50% tariff on European Union goods starting June 1, citing stalled negotiations. He also targets American tech giant Apple with a potential 25% tariff unless it moves all iPhone production to the U.S., a costly and complex shift estimated to nearly triple production costs. The tariffs are already raising consumer prices, with furniture and bedding costs rising sharply. Major retailers like Walmart and Nike plan price increases and layoffs due to higher tariff-driven costs, while Target revises its outlook. The EU condemns the tariffs, emphasizing mutual respect in trade relations.

Among those companies is Apple who could get hit with additional tariffs.

Travelers prepare for Memorial Day weekend traffic
SUMMARY: As Memorial Day weekend approaches, many travelers have already hit the roads, particularly around I40 and South Saunders Street, experiencing steady but expectedly heavier traffic tomorrow. Travelers express excitement for the holiday but frustration with congestion and reckless driving. Many plan to relax by barbecuing and spending time with family, like Sean Shanker at the lake. To avoid traffic headaches, locals recommend leaving early, ideally before midday, and packing water and snacks. The NC DOT’s Click It or Ticket campaign reminds drivers to prioritize safety by buckling up and driving carefully throughout the busy weekend. Preparation is essential for a smoother trip.
