‘I need this trip:’ Mayfield woman wins distillery tour, cash prize from Kentucky Lottery promotion
SUMMARY: Bridgett Guthrie from Mayfield, Kentucky, won $11,350 in the Kentucky Bourbon Trail lottery promotion, including a distillery tour and $10,000 cash. She plans to use the prize to buy her three daughters an outdoor waterslide and possibly start a small business to spend more time with her kids. Guthrie, who worked long hours at the Mayfield Consumer Products factory destroyed by 2021 tornadoes, sees the win as a much-needed break. The Kentucky Bourbon Trail lottery, launched in partnership with the Kentucky Distillers’ Association, features scratch-off and online games with second-chance promotions and a $250,000 top prize.

Heat and humidity hang tough for a few more days
SUMMARY: The final weekend of July brought continued hot and humid conditions in Central and Eastern Kentucky, with heat index values exceeding 100°. A strong high-pressure ridge kept sunshine and temperatures in the low 90s through midweek. A Heat Advisory remains in effect through Wednesday, with potential isolated afternoon storms offering little relief. By late Wednesday and Thursday, a cold front will bring increased rain chances and lower temperatures into the mid-80s, along with drier, more comfortable air. As August begins, humidity will drop, especially in the Bluegrass region, promising a more pleasant and less muggy start to the month.
