Songs of Love writes personalized music for kids — but can AI carry the tune?
SUMMARY: The Songs of Love Foundation, led by John Beltzer, creates personalized songs for children with serious illnesses and now aims to serve older adults with memory loss. Using AI tools from Suno, the nonprofit adapts to producing music reflective of older generations’ tastes, addressing songwriter shortages. Though not a licensed music therapy organization, the foundation’s work shares therapeutic benefits by affirming individuals through custom songs. Some musicians express concern that AI-produced music lacks the human connection vital to healing. Despite this, the foundation embraces technology and volunteer contributions, striving to continue its mission of comfort through music.

SUMMARY: Seven years after the deadly Antioch Waffle House shooting that killed four people, including Akila DaSilva—the son of Tennessee State Rep. Shaundelle Brooks—the convicted shooter, Travis Rainey, is requesting a new trial. Rainey’s lawyers claim he was denied a fair chance to present evidence of mental illness and argue the jury was misled on the legal definition of insanity, alleging racial and emotional bias. Prosecutors counter that Rainey was sane, acted deliberately, and evaded police for over 30 hours. Brooks, who has advocated for gun reform since her son’s death, says Rainey does not deserve a second chance. A hearing is scheduled for tomorrow.
