SUMMARY: A deadly home explosion in Florissant, Missouri, killed 46-year-old Michael Blankenship, who was manufacturing homemade pyrotechnic devices in his garage. The blast occurred Wednesday afternoon on Trinity Lane near Graham Road, shaking nearby houses and damaging several homes with broken windows and ripped siding. Paramedics rushed Blankenship to the hospital, but he died from critical injuries. Neighbors were shocked as a child escaped unharmed. Pyrotechnic expert John Whiter of Gateway Fireworks emphasized that making fireworks at home is extremely dangerous, requiring extensive training, education, and supervision—conditions not met by homemade attempts like Blankenship’s.

Arthur Shivers: Proper breathing and tempo

Published

on

www.youtube.com – FOX 2 St. Louis – 2025-06-01 08:40:31

SUMMARY: Arthur Shivers from Deep 3 Fitness emphasizes the importance of proper breathing and controlled tempo during weightlifting. He advises staying hydrated with water—not sugary, caffeinated, or alcoholic drinks—especially as temperatures rise. Shivers explains that many gym-goers breathe incorrectly, often holding their breath, which can reduce oxygen flow to muscles. Instead, he recommends taking deep breaths, exhaling during exertion, and maintaining a steady, controlled tempo rather than rushing or using jerky movements. Proper breathing and tempo maximize muscle engagement, reduce injury risk, and improve workout effectiveness. He suggests aiming for 4-5 sets of 2-15 reps with focused control on each movement.

Job Corps center closure leaves students without a future

Published

on

www.youtube.com – FOX 2 St. Louis – 2025-05-30 22:43:47

SUMMARY: The U.S. Department of Labor is pausing operations at all contractor-operated Job Corps centers, including the St. Louis center, due to a \$213 million deficit, rising safety concerns, and low graduation rates. This sudden closure, effective June 30, displaces hundreds of students and threatens nearly 200 jobs. Families are emotionally distressed as students, many with hopes for stable futures, are abruptly sent home. One student’s grandmother, caring for a daughter battling cancer, fears the closure will derail her grandson’s progress. Another family worries a granddaughter, close to nursing school enrollment, may now have to seek employment instead of continuing her education.
