HHS Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. firing every member of panel that makes vaccine recommendations
SUMMARY: Health and Human Services Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. has dismissed all 17 members of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices just before their planned vote on new COVID-19 and other vaccine recommendations. Kennedy criticized the panel for conflicts of interest and accused it of rubber-stamping vaccine approvals. Medical experts and organizations like the American Medical Association and American Academy of Pediatrics condemned the move, warning it threatens public trust and independent medical expertise. Concerns have also been raised that Kennedy may censor data presented to the panel, escalating fears of politicizing vaccine policy amid ongoing public health challenges.
Naomi Ruchim reports on what this means for the vaccine process moving forward.

3 killed and scores injured as Russia targets Ukraine with new attacks
SUMMARY: Russian forces intensified drone and missile attacks on Ukraine, killing three and injuring many, despite ceasefire talks. Overnight, Russia launched 63 drones and decoys; Ukraine’s air defenses destroyed or jammed most. Attacks hit eastern Donetsk, southern Kherson, and Kharkiv regions, targeting civilian areas including schools and kindergartens. Ukraine retaliated with drone raids, with Russia downing many over its Belgorod region. Recent bombings are part of a broader Russian offensive along a 600-mile front. Ceasefire prospects remain bleak after divergent talks in Istanbul. Ukrainian President Zelenskyy urged the EU for harsher oil sanctions on Russia. German Defense Minister Pistorius visited Kyiv, reaffirming support amid escalations.

Man taking care of aging mom struggles to find job: “My bills keep adding up”
SUMMARY: More than 5.5 million Americans are unemployed, including 47-year-old Darryl Webb, who cares for his aging mother while struggling to find work. Since losing his senior marketing job in January, Darryl has applied to over 300 jobs without success. He has emptied his 401(k), given up his own home, and sometimes sacrifices his own needs to provide for his mom. The financial and emotional strain is heavy, especially amid a volatile job market with hiring uncertainties. Experts advise customizing resumes and using buzzwords to stand out. Despite setbacks, Darryl remains determined to support his mother and find employment.
For Darrell Webb, 47, the decision to care for his aging mother remains non-negotiable. Out of work since January, Webb has burned through his 401(k), moved in with friends and applied to more than 300 jobs, all while prioritizing his mother’s well-being over his own.

South Florida Weather for Wednesday 6/11/2025 12PM
SUMMARY: South Florida faces tricky weather with about a 40% chance of scattered showers and storms today and tomorrow, potentially causing minor flooding from heavier downpours. Rain chances will decrease by the end of the workweek and into the weekend, becoming more isolated, thanks to Saharan dust moving into the region. Temperatures will be in the upper 80s to lower 90s but feel warmer due to humidity. While storm models have been unreliable, the heaviest activity is expected westward. The Saharan dust should help keep the region mostly storm-free by Father’s Day, lowering rain chances further.
NEXT Weather meteorologist Shane Hinton says a few scattered showers are possible in the afternoon with highs in the upper 80s.
