Here's how you can help with the Jackson water crisis

The drinking system in — Mississippi's largest and home to more than 160,000 — is failing, announced on Monday.

Thousands of Jackson residents have no or little water pressure, and though local, state and federal officials are working to restore reliable service, they cannot yet say when that will happen.

As the eyes of the nation turn to Jackson, many readers have asked how they can residents of Jackson during the catastrophe. The Community Foundation for Mississippi has compiled a helpful resource page that includes information about how to give to working to help Jacksonians.

Jackson man killed in motorcycle crash in Warren County

SUMMARY: A 48-year-old man was killed in a motorcycle crash on Highway 27 South near Country Brown Road in Warren County. The crash occurred just after 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, April 24. Ridgeland man sentenced for molesting girl

SUMMARY: Ronnie Hales, a 44-year-old man from Ridgeland, pled guilty to gratification of lust by molesting his then-girlfriend's 10-year-old daughter. He was to 10 years in prison without the possibility of early release or parole and will have to register as a sex offender upon release. The abuse was reported to Ridgeland in February 2023, leading to an investigation that included a forensic interview of the child. Evidence was found at Hales' home, and multiple agencies collaborated to secure the conviction. District Attorney Bubba Bramlett expressed gratitude for the teamwork and hopes the child can find closure and move forward.

Bond set for suspect charged in Rankin County homicide

SUMMARY: Two suspects charged in the shooting of a 20-year-old man in Rankin County appeared in court. Ryan Duette was given a $500,000 bond for second degree murder. The victim, Horne, was found shot at a home in the Reservoir area, and his body was taken to the Medical Examiner's Office. Duette and Lainey Ingle turned themselves in, to be involved in an altercation with the victim. Firearms were recovered from their vehicle. Horne's brother had also been shot and killed in a month earlier. The suspects are facing charges in connection with the murder.
