Henry County leaders meeting to talk about proposal for brand new data center | Residents concerned
SUMMARY: Henry County leaders are meeting to discuss a proposal for two new data centers, as construction is booming across Georgia. One proposed center, measuring 1.2 million square feet, is planned for Strickland Road, aiming for completion by 2028, while another identical site is proposed off Rocky Creek Road. Concerns have been raised by residents about the impact on the county’s limited water resources, especially since data centers typically require significant water for cooling. Henry County Water authorities previously indicated that large projects could strain resources. Commissioners declined to comment on the proposal until after the meeting.

During last month’s board meeting, the county talked about its limited water resources, something residents are also concerned about.

Omega block keeps skies clear on Cinco de Mayo, Unsettled pattern kicks in mid-week
SUMMARY: A cold front with storms has moved offshore, bringing cooler, drier air to the CSRA, setting up sunshine and pleasant weather for Monday and Tuesday, with highs in the upper 70s to low 80s. This is due to a slow-moving “Omega block” pattern, featuring high pressure over the region, surrounded by low pressure areas causing rain elsewhere. However, midweek, this pattern will weaken, allowing moisture and rain to return, with showers and thunderstorms likely from Wednesday through Saturday. The Mother’s Day forecast remains uncertain, depending on the Omega block’s breakdown. Updates will follow later this week.

72nd Annual Reunion for those who once lived in Dunbarton, Sc
SUMMARY: The town of Dunbarton in Barnwell County, SC, was one of seven towns displaced by the Savannah River Project in the early 1950s. Margaret Rountree, a former resident, has helped organize reunions for over 70 years, now in their 72nd year, held at Barnwell State Park. These reunions bring together three generations of descendants to preserve the town’s memory. Other towns affected include Ellenton and Meyers Mill. The reunions feature photos, yearbooks, and memorabilia. Dunbarton was uprooted when the Savannah River Site was established, covering over 300 square miles across several counties. Rountree continues to honor the legacy of the town and its people.

44% of home sellers are giving concessions to buyers: Redfin
SUMMARY: Rising inventory and weak demand are shifting leverage to home buyers, with sellers offering concessions in 44% of U.S. home sales in Q1 2024, up from 39% the previous year. Concessions, such as covering repair costs, closing fees, or mortgage-rate buydowns, help buyers afford homes without lowering list prices. The Pacific Northwest leads, notably Seattle (71%) and Portland (64%), where sellers offer perks to keep prices high amid tough market conditions. In contrast, cities like New York (6%) and Miami (34%) see fewer concessions as sellers pre-price homes more competitively. Nationwide, 16% of sales included both price cuts and concessions.
