Heat wave continues
SUMMARY: The heat wave continues with highs reaching the upper 90s to nearly 100 degrees, making it the warmest day so far this year. While temperatures won’t be as extreme this weekend, it will still feel like the upper 90s to triple digits due to high humidity. Typical summer conditions include afternoon pop-up showers and storms, mainly in western North Carolina, the Upstate, and northeast Georgia. Highs in western North Carolina will be in the mid-80s, with lower 90s elsewhere, staying seasonable. Rain chances increase Tuesday with a weak cold front, making it the wettest day next week. Tropical activity in the Bay of Campeche poses minimal U.S. impact.

Pentagon leaders double down on the destruction from US attacks on Iran
SUMMARY: The Pentagon’s top leaders defended the U.S. strikes on Iran’s nuclear facilities, emphasizing the extensive planning behind the attacks. Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth called the operation a historically successful mission, pushing back against intelligence reports that the sites were only partially damaged and Iran’s program delayed by months. Gen. Dan Caine highlighted 15 years of research developing bombs capable of penetrating deep underground facilities like Fordo. Despite the massive bomb drops, the DIA report noted the sites weren’t completely destroyed. Hegseth criticized media coverage and said no intelligence indicates nuclear materials were moved prior to the strikes.
