Harris Co. Attorney's Office filing 1st scam-related lawsuit since launch of 'scam-free' initiative
SUMMARY: The Harris County Attorney’s Office is filing its first lawsuit related to its scam-free initiative against ANL Sheds. Over 100 victims in South Texas claim they paid more than $1.1 million for homes or livable sheds that were never built, with refunds never received. One victim highlighted losing her life savings and being forced to pay rent after selling her home to fund the purchase. Following 27 postponed completion dates, the community is relieved that legal action is underway, hoping to prevent further scams and assist anyone else affected. The office is open to hearing from additional victims.

Each school operates below 60% capacity but holds an A rating from the Texas Education Agency. Parents and a board member oppose closures, citing community impact, teacher-student ratios, and future population growth. Superintendent Bruce Gearing acknowledges concerns but stresses financial necessity. A final decision is expected October 9.
