Gulfport mom indicted in son’s murder, family speaks out
SUMMARY: A Gulfport mother, Jerry Lynn Roby, has been indicted for the 2023 murder of her son, John Allen Gaither. Roby allegedly shot John in the head, hid his body in a wooden box behind a boarded-up bedroom wall, and later pretended to be him during a missing person report. John’s family, still grieving, described him as a quiet, car-loving mechanic close to his dad and brother. Roby, previously convicted in 1995 for murder, was living with John when he was killed. She faces charges of first-degree murder and firearm possession; her trial is set for June. Family members vow to honor John’s memory.

A mother already convicted of murder is now indicted for killing her adult son in Gulfport.
