ourmshome.com – Mark W. LaSalle, Ph.D. – 2025-08-09 08:56:00

SUMMARY: Green Herons (Butorides virescens) are small, stocky wading birds often overlooked due to their reclusive nature. Unlike larger herons, they hunt quietly along shallow wetland edges, lurking under vegetation. They have striking dark green/blue backs, chestnut bodies, and yellow-ringed eyes. Green Herons feed on fish, insects, crustaceans, and small animals, using their quick, dagger-like bills to catch prey. Their nests, simple twig platforms, are built near water or in nearby woodlands, with pairs raising multiple broods annually. They breed across much of the eastern U.S., Central America, and the Caribbean, and winter in warmer southern regions. Observing them reveals a beautiful, skilled hunter.

The modern balloon arch was popularized in the 1970s by Treb Heining, who transformed balloon decor into an art form. Today, balloon arches are crafted by creative artists worldwide, like Mississippi’s KatieDid! Balloons, who creates stunning designs for schools and events. These arches brighten celebrations and serve as photo backdrops, symbolizing creativity and community effort behind every cheerful display.
