Georgia woman wants compensation after being sold water-downed gas | FOX 5 News

SUMMARY: A Georgia woman, Maryland Benson, alleges that contaminated fuel at a Clayton County gas station damaged her Mercedes-Benz after she purchased $50 of premium gas. Shortly after fueling, her car’s engine light came on, leading to a $2,900 repair bill. Investigators from the Georgia Department of Agriculture found four inches of water in the station’s premium fuel tank in May, contaminating fuel pumps. Despite the station’s pumps being shut down and inspected, the business has refused to reimburse Benson. The state says gas stations selling bad fuel are liable for damages and advises customers to document and file complaints. Benson plans to pursue small claims court.

The issue dates back to April, when the Georgia Department of Agriculture shut down the premium and mid-grade fuel pumps at an Amoco station after one customer claimed the gas caused damage to her vehicle. Investigators returned to follow up on claims that the shutdown order had been disregarded. While the station has since been cleared for operation, the underlying issues have not been resolved, and the woman has not been reimbursed for her repair costs.

SUMMARY: A Brown University study found 37 nursing homes in Georgia are at risk of closure due to cuts in Medicaid under the Trump administration’s budget law. Senator Jon Ossoff voted against the GOP budget, calling it the largest Medicaid cut in U.S. history, threatening the health and well-being of Georgia’s seniors, 70% of whom rely on Medicaid for nursing home care. The budget also raises health insurance premiums and harms Georgia’s growing clean energy sector. Among the affected facilities, five nursing homes are located in Emanuel, Hancock, Warren, and Washington counties. Ossoff urges Georgia’s Republican House members to oppose the bill.
