Georgia veterans seeking VA benefits: Beware of scams
SUMMARY: Georgia veterans seeking VA benefits are at risk of scams, especially as the Trump Administration makes cuts to the Department of Veterans Affairs. Scammers frequently target veterans, posing as VA representatives through phone calls and emails, offering to assist with claims or promising quick decisions. Veterans are advised to be cautious of unsolicited offers and can report scams on vsafe.gov or the VA fraud hotline. Assistance with VA benefits is available at American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and Disabled American Veterans chapters, or through accredited VA representatives for a fee. Veterans like Captain Harry Brooks encourage perseverance in navigating the system.
Every day, thousands of Georgia veterans reach out to the VA for their benefits. The problem is – an army of scammers is trying to prey on them.

Reported shark attack on HHI
SUMMARY: On Hilton Head Island, HHIFR responded to a medical emergency involving a possible shark bite. Shore Beach Services and HHIFR provided care, deeming the injury non-life threatening before the person was airlifted to Savannah. According to the Georgia Aquarium, shark bites are rare, with humans not considered prey. If you spot a shark while swimming, stay calm, exit the water, maintain eye contact, and stick together if in a group. Most attacks are curiosity-driven; never feed or touch sharks. Warning signs of aggression include specific swimming patterns and low-light activity. Remember, shark attacks are far less likely than other beach hazards.
