GA woman released from prison 20+ years after killing alleged abuser
SUMMARY: Latoya expresses overwhelming relief and joy at finally gaining freedom after decades of abuse. She met her alleged abuser at 13 and became a mother of three by 17, enduring a relationship marked by her husband’s controlling and abusive behavior. An attempt to escape in her late twenties led to a near-fatal situation, resulting in a life sentence in prison in 2001. Latoya emphasizes that her story is more complex than what has been shared, and she is now committed to helping others find their own paths to freedom and healing.
A 2022 letter to the Georgia State Board of Pardons and Parole said Latoya was just 13 years old when she met her future husband, who was 17 at the time.
“Their entire relationship was plagued by her husband’s controlling behavior through physical, sexual, and emotional abuse, including throughout her three pregnancies,” advocates wrote. “The night of the fatal incident, Latoya was at the point of considering suicide after being exhausted by years of abuse.”
In January 1999, Latoya made the decision to leave her husband, but he wouldn’t let her. The two fought over a knife; he died several days later from his wounds.
In 2001, a judge sentenced Latoya to life in prison for felony murder.

President Trump talks about Georgia ICE raid
SUMMARY: President Trump commented on the recent ICE raid at the Hyundai LG battery plant in South Georgia, where 475 workers were detained—marked as the largest such operation by Homeland Security. The detained workers, mostly subcontractors accused of illegal entry or overstaying visas, included 300 South Koreans. South Korea’s prime minister plans to visit the US to facilitate their return. Trump praised the operation, stating ICE was just doing their job. Additionally, Trump spoke at the Museum of the Bible about religious liberty, defending America’s Judeo-Christian heritage and criticizing opposing views on rights from a creator, emphasizing faith’s role in strengthening the nation.
President Donald Trump spoke about the ICE raid at the Hyundai plant on Sunday. He said ICE had the right to arrest the South Korean immigrants working at the plant, but the U.S. should consider letting foreign experts temporarily stay to train Americans in advanced industries.

Sea turtle nesting season wraps with surprises on coast
SUMMARY: The sea turtle nesting season along South Carolina and Georgia coasts saw mixed results in 2025. Hilton Head recorded 237 nests, below the expected 350, possibly due to last winter’s cold ocean temperatures and rare snowfall affecting food availability. False crawls, where turtles visit but don’t nest, were unusually high, indicating stress. Tybee Island had 19 nests, a strong number for its size, but heavy rainfall and flooding endangered many nests, with only 14 successfully hatched. Conservationists stress public awareness about reducing beach disturbances. With turtles nesting every two years, both islands hope for a stronger 2026 season despite this year’s challenges.
