Former judge backtracks, no longer wants trial moved to different county
SUMMARY: Former Garfield County District Judge Brian Levels, accused of shooting his brother-in-law years ago, initially sought to move his trial to Comanche County. His attorneys argued that a change of venue was necessary due to potential bias in Garfield County, where Levels once presided. However, Levels has since reversed this decision, choosing to keep the trial in Garfield County. His legal team weighed the risks, including the possibility of a mistrial or appeal if negative information arises during the trial. Despite concerns about fairness, Levels prefers to be judged by a jury of his peers in the county where he was elected.

Network outage brings state offices, tag agencies to a halt
SUMMARY: A statewide network outage in Oklahoma disrupted computer systems and phone lines across multiple state offices and tag agencies, leaving hundreds of employees unable to work and frustrating customers. The outage, lasting several hours, forced some agencies to close temporarily. Private tag agencies, which depend on state-run systems, were also severely affected, with many unable to process title, tax, or driver’s license services. Attempts to contact affected agencies often failed due to the widespread service disruption. The state’s Office of Management and Enterprise Services confirmed they were working to resolve an internet outage but provided no details on its cause, leaving cleanup ongoing as operations gradually resume.

Sports and entertainment store Scheels coming to the metro
SUMMARY: Sports and entertainment store Scheels is set to open a massive 300,000-square-foot location in the Oklahoma City metro near Lake Hefner Parkway, north of the Kilpatrick Turnpike. The city council has approved an $8 million pay-for-performance public incentive package, earned over ten years through a portion of the sales tax generated by the store. This package is a key factor in attracting Scheels to the area. The store aims to offer a unique mix of sporting goods and entertainment, differentiating itself from competitors. Final council approval of the incentive package is still pending, with groundbreaking anticipated soon.

Former payroll director ordered to prison, must repay district nearly $500,000
SUMMARY: Former Mustang Public Schools payroll director Kim Windbreak was sentenced to 18 months in federal prison for stealing nearly $500,000 from the district over six years. From 2016 to 2022, she manipulated payroll by replacing voluntary deduction amounts with negative numbers, inflating her paychecks to as much as $8,000. Investigators revealed she also diverted tax withholdings from other employees’ paychecks to cover her own taxes. Windbreak’s scheme resulted in about $430,000 in extra pay. She must repay nearly $600,000 in total restitution, including approximately $470,000 to the school district and $125,000 to the IRS.
