Former ATL mayor announces run for GA governor
SUMMARY: Former Atlanta Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms has entered Georgia’s 2026 gubernatorial race. Serving as mayor from 2018 to 2022, she chose not to seek re-election and later joined the Biden administration as director of the White House Office of Public Engagement. Bottoms emphasized expanding and improving Medicaid coverage in Georgia as her top priority, criticizing the state’s refusal to expand it, which has led to significant healthcare gaps. She faces competition from Democratic Sen. Jason Esteves and Republican Attorney General Chris Carr, with more candidates expected to announce soon.

Cubs orphaned after someone kills mother bear | FOX 5 News
SUMMARY: In Jasper’s Bentree community, a mother black bear was shot and killed by a resident, leaving her two cubs orphaned. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources (DNR) is investigating and trying to locate the cubs, who were last seen Sunday. Black bear educator Gerald Hajj stresses that shooting bears is unnecessary and dangerous, advising residents to use noise-making devices like whistles, air horns, or banging pots to scare bears away safely. Hajj warns that human intervention often harms wildlife and suggests the cubs might be adopted by another female bear, though that’s unlikely in a populated area. Authorities may capture the cubs if found, and the shooter faces possible charges.

Tensions are running high in Jasper after authorities there say a mother black bear was shot and killed in the bent tree community, orphaning her two cubs. The Georgia Department of Natural Resources is investigating and working to make sure the cubs survive. But right now, the authorities don’t know where they are.
