Florida boy 'tortured' by mom, her boyfriend dies weeks after hospitalization, police say
SUMMARY: Ten-year-old Xavier Williams tragically passed away after reportedly being tortured by his mother, Kimberly Mills, and her boyfriend, Andre Walker. He spent nearly a month in the hospital fighting for his life, enduring severe abuse that included being taped to a ladder and suffering burns. Following his death, authorities plan to enhance the couple’s charges from aggravated child abuse and neglect to murder, as the abuse led to his demise. Both are currently in jail without bond and are scheduled for court on Monday. A vigil in Xavier’s memory is set for next Saturday.
A 10-year-old boy at the center of a horrific child abuse investigation in Florida, allegedly at the hands of his mother and her boyfriend, has died. Xavier Williams died on Friday, police said, weeks after he was brought to the hospital with head-to-toe bruises and burns. His 9-year-old brother survived. Police are now looking to upgrade the charges against the boy’s mother and her boyfriend.

Trump delays the TikTok ban once again
SUMMARY: President Donald Trump signed a third executive order extending TikTok’s operation in the U.S. for 90 more days, aiming to finalize a deal transferring ownership to American hands. Initial bans and deadlines were postponed due to negotiations collapsing after China’s objections. Despite ongoing uncertainty and a lack of clear legal authority for the extensions, TikTok remains accessible to its 170 million U.S. users. Public opinion on banning TikTok has declined, with about one-third supporting a ban, largely over data security concerns. Critics, including Senator Mark Warner, argue the administration ignores legal and national security risks posed by China-owned TikTok.

Hurricane Erik nears Mexico’s southern coast
SUMMARY: Hurricane Erik, a powerful Category 4 storm with winds peaking at 145 mph, is making historic landfall on Mexico’s Pacific coast near Acapulco. It intensified rapidly—doubling in strength within 18 hours—and is the first major hurricane to hit this region in June. Communities in Oaxaca are experiencing catastrophic flooding and mudslides, with the storm expected to weaken over the Sierra Madre mountains but continue dumping heavy rain. This is the second farthest east Pacific hurricane landfall in Mexico’s history. Meteorologists warn this rare event marks the beginning of an active hurricane season, with Atlantic activity expected soon.
Hurricane Erick continues to rapidly intensify and reached Category 4 strength as the extremely dangerous storm continues to approach the southern coast of Mexico in an area popular with travelers. The National Hurricane Center (NHC) said that Hurricane Erick is expected to make landfall in the western portions of the Mexican state of Oaxaca or the eastern portion of the Mexican state of Gurrero on Thursday morning, and then continue inland over Mexico during the day.

‘Not compatible with the area:’ 236-acre sports complex raises concerns in Marion County
SUMMARY: Developers in Marion County, Florida, have proposed a 236-acre sports and entertainment complex near the World Equestrian Center. The plan includes multipurpose fields, a soccer stadium, and indoor venues for events. However, nonprofit Horse Farms Forever opposes the project, claiming it conflicts with the county’s comprehensive plan and threatens the area’s equestrian identity and rural character. Executive Director Sara Fennessy argues the proposal promotes urban sprawl and omits equestrian elements. Golden Ocala seeks a land-use change, and the county will evaluate the proposal with long-term impacts in mind. A public discussion is scheduled for June 30.
