Marine officials are investigating after a fin whale washed up near the beach in Pass Christian Saturday.
The Institute for Marine Mammal Studies received a call that a whale had washed ashore. The fire department, police, and NOAA were called in for reinforcements to move the 100,000-pound animal.
After much trial and error, the dead whale was retrieved from the water using a tractor and manpower.
Following a necropsy, it was determined to be a fin whale, the second largest type of whale in the world.
