Federal court strikes down Biden admin’s Title IX rewrite | Kentucky
SUMMARY: A federal court in Kentucky ruled that the Biden administration’s expansion of Title IX to include gender identity is unlawful. The United States District Court sided with plaintiffs from Kentucky, Indiana, Tennessee, and West Virginia, asserting that the administration overstepped its authority. Chief Judge Danny C. Reeves stated that Title IX’s phrase “on the basis of sex” refers specifically to male and female, and that the new regulations are arbitrary and violate the First Amendment, demanding schools use names and pronouns aligned with a student’s gender identity. The court struck down the entire rule, deeming it invalid. The decision is subject to appeal.

Speed limit reduced on State Route 109 in Wilson County
SUMMARY: Tennessee has lowered the speed limit on State Route 109, a notoriously dangerous stretch of road, in response to hundreds of accidents and growing concerns. Effective today, the speed limit is reduced by 5 to 10 miles per hour. Between October 2019 and 2024, over 1,600 crashes were reported on this road. The decision follows community concerns and extensive traffic studies. Lowering the speed limits to 45 and 50 mph aims to reduce crash severity. State and local authorities, along with the Tennessee Highway Patrol, are working together to enforce the new limits and improve safety.

Tennessee AG leading 14-state lawsuit against HIPAA rule
SUMMARY: Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti is spearheading a lawsuit with over a dozen states against the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS). The lawsuit challenges a new HHS rule that restricts the disclosure of “reproductive health care” information without consent, hindering states’ abilities to conduct investigations and obtain health records. The rule, established after the Supreme Court’s Dobbs decision, adds barriers that prevent states from using reproductive health data in criminal or civil inquiries. Skrmetti criticized the rule as politically motivated and impractical, seeking to have the court declare it unlawful and halt its enforcement.
